Dance Story

At the age of 6 Anthony's parents, John and Peggy DeRosa took him the the US1 flea market where he saw a bunch of kids his age dancing in front of a stage for a band. Wanting to learn what they were doing Anthony, joined in on one of the Line Dances. While dancing an instructor approached him because she saw a talent in him and invited them to the Yellow Rose Saloon in New Jersey where many kids his age came out for Family night for a fun night of Country and Western Dancing. Anthony fell in love with the atmosphere and fun time he had dancing with everyone.

After a few times of dancing at the Yellow Rose, he started to learn how to Two-step and learned his favorite dance the East Coast Swing. While Dancing one night at the Yellow Rose, Anthony met the Vandorean family which consisted of 3 girls and 1 boy and the mother and Father who also danced. Anthony and Katie became very good friends and started to take lessons together with Georgane. Georgane began to train them for many competitions.

Anthony and Katie won their first competition when Anthony was 6 and Katie was 4. They went on to win several competitions throughout the years. Anthony had switched partners three Times after that. He has danced with Heather Kalfus and shortly after Heather, he danced with Kate Halka and Nicole Marolda. At the Age of 14 Anthony decided to stop competiting in Country and Western.

While Dancing at a Country competition one weekend, Anthony noticed a new type of dancing. A very exciting dance that was done to blues and contemporary music. The dance was West Coast Swing. Anthony immediately fell in love with this dance. At the time Anthony was so excited about the dance that he just had to learn. Anthony's parents were learning west coast swing at the competitions, so he wanted them to teach him how to dance it. Anthony began to learn how to follow the dance from his mother. Figuring the dance had to be similar to East Coast Swing, he switched his footwork around and figured out how to lead. At many events Anthony would sit on the side of the dance floor and watch people do the steps, and when no one was looking would go in the corner and try them. When he got home,he would ask his mother to let him try some stuff. Getting the courage to do the dance, Anthony would start to try it little by little at the events. And finally started to take lessons at Dance Manhattan with Robert Cordoba and Deborah Szekely. Along with WCS, Anthony had taken Jazz clases to learn how to move like all the amazing dancers he watched. Through out the years, Anthony had learned from the top pro's in the country including Mario Robau, Robert Royston, Blake Hobby, John Lindo, Mary Anne Nunez and Skippy Blair.

Anthony has won numerous Strictly Swing and Jack and Jill Contests from the Age 14 to the present. Anthony was once known as the Jack and Jill wiz kid. Anthony has fallen in love with the dance and has been Teaching at Dance Events, Dance Studios and private lessons. Anthony has also been a DJ for Country Western, Hustle and West Coast Swing Dances.
